Turquoise with Black & White Damask

The first annual Wedding Walk Tacoma happened this past month and we were so excited to take part.  The walk consisted of 6 fabulous venues in the downtown Tacoma area.  Each venue offered food, signature cocktails and incredible design.  We brought in the floral elements to the gorgeous space  Red Letter Events designed at the Tacoma Art Museum.
The Color Scheme:  Turquoise with black & white damask.
The Flowers:  All white!  Roses, stock, million star, carnations, spider mums, tulips & dusty miller.
Photos below are courtesy of Vivid Images Photography, thanks Kim!

Top: overall set-up, centerpiece 1: chandelier & small arrangements, small trio of stock, roses & million star. Bottom: lounge set-up with tall trio of tulips, stock & roses, hand-tied bouquet of dusty miller.

I took the photos below with my iPhone.

Top: Our table set with bouquets, hand-tied bouquet of white tulips and ti leaves. Bottom: small bubble bowl with a white spider mum on light base, bouquet of white roses & dusty miller, centerpiece 2: wreath of carnations, stock, beargrass & white ostrich feathers.

Overall I focused on creating arrangements consisting of one type of flower.  I think the idea of one flower type per vase or bouquet is a great compliment to the damask pattern and bright turquoise color.
It is always fun to meet brides, grooms and their families.  We had a blast with the other vendors & even danced a bit!

Now...cha cha! (Photo courtesy of Vivid Images Photography)

Red Gerbera Daisies, Red Roses & Valentine’s Day!

One Valentine’s Day I had a very creative order.  The husband requested a replica of his wife’s bridal bouquet for Valentine’s Day.  I was able to create an arrangement in a vase mimicking the bouquet.  This is the bouquet we used as inspiration.

I love that this idea was so creative, so unexpected, so memorable!

While I love using flowers other than red roses on Valentine’s Day I will admit that I am a bit obsessed with red roses this year.  One of our local restaurants, Pacific Grill, celebrated the holiday all weekend with a fantastic menu and over the top service and decor.  Rose petals on all the tables, candles, a rose and calla lily arrangement at the entry and a special floral and candle arrangement on the side table in their private dining room.

For the private dining room arrangement I used a trio of mirrored vases topped with rose and ti leaf arrangements and surrounded by varying sizes of glass cylinders filled with red gems and candles.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Eggplant, Fuchsia & Red: Wedding Events & Expos

Once again, January brings wedding expos and events.  The Brides Club Tacoma Wedding Expo came first.  I worked with American Party Place (they are a rental company) to design their booth.  We started with a base of purple and then wanted to introduce red into the color scheme.  When paired with white and black, purple and red is a crisp combination.  I had my designs ready and then, while I was flying home from the Elevate workshop, I thought we should add fuchsia into the mix and create a rich jeweled look.  Here is the result!

Flowers used: fuchsia peonies, red freedom roses, dark purple schwarzwalder mini calla lilies, pink heather (in the upper right centerpiece arrangement) and pink freesia (in the lower right chair detail).

The week after the expo brought the first ever wedding event at the Gig Harbor Golf Club (GHGC).  They recently completed a remodel on their facility and it looks great.  Steve from GHGC invited us along with Jonz Catering, Red Letter Events, Vivid Images Photography, Trendy Events, American Party Place, Adam’s DJ Service and Celebrity Cake Studio to come set up for an evening of champagne and tasting.  It was a fantastic evening meeting with brides, grooms and their families.  I also loved getting to know some of my fellow wedding professionals in a more intimate setting.

For this event the main color was eggplant, the lighting brought in shades of pink, purple and blue and for the flowers we used purple, burgundy and pink.  All the photos below are courtesy of Vivid Images Photography.  Thanks Kim!

Top Row: manzanita branch in a glass cube with freesia and cymbidium orchid accents; glass cylinder with black flat wire and purple spider mums; manzanita branches in a cylinder of black rocks, hanging jars filled with pink flowers or candles. Bottom Right: arrangement of white freesia, pink stock, burgundy snapdragons, purple tulips, burgundy cymbidium orchids and white hypericum berries in a glass cube.

It was a full week but I think one of the best things is meeting new brides and talking with them about their weddings.  I love my job!

Pink Roses & Gerbera Daisies: Real Wedding Inspiration

I am working on a wedding for the beginning of March with a color palette of rose petal pink and silvery gray.  For the flowers we are using roses and the brides favorite, gerbera daisies.  Here is a look at the flowers we are thinking about along with her color swatches.

Elevate 11: The Ace Hotel, Palm Springs

A few months back my friend Eliesa of Photogen Inc told me about a photography workshop she was organizing called Elevate.  Then, she asked if I wanted to be involved by creating the floral and decor items that would be used in the photo shoot challenges the attendees would be participating in.  Of course I wanted to get involved!  So over the next few weeks we exchanged emails, photos and even squeezed in a quick meeting over coffee when Eliesa visited the Northwest one weekend.  All the planning resulted in an amazing workshop at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs last week.

For our part of the workshop we created arrangements for the attendee rooms and conference tables and then focused on the photo shoot challenges.  One of the challenges was an underwater shoot in the pool.  For this we created paper flowers for the pool made from Rite in the Rain paper.  We also embellished an old-style swim cap with daisies and created a floating flower beach ball of carnations.  For the last photo shoot challenge we worked on adding flower elements to a honeymoon suite and we created a table scape complete with a flower chandelier.

Below are a few photos I took with my iPhone.  I know, I know…I was at a photography workshop and all I have are photos from my iPhone.  I will be receiving photos from the photographers over the next few weeks and then I will post some of their work as I know it will be incredible!

Clockwise from top left: a welcome arrangement for the attendees rooms; schwarzwalder mini calla lilies in a cube for the conference tables; table scape created for one of the challenges; a beach ball of mini carnations for another challenge.

The guys from Capture Studios were also at the workshop shooting video.  They created some pretty sweet same day edits for us.  Here are day 1 and 2.

To Eliesa, her team, the speakers and attendees: thank you!  I had a fabulous time working with you all!

12 Days of Decor & Tradition: Day 12

I don’t quite remember the year I started making these scones on Christmas morning, but I do know that I love them and so does my family…especially when served with a mimosa!  I started with a simple cranberry scone recipe and tweaked it by adding in white chocolate chips,  orange zest and finishing it with an orange glaze.

Here is my recipe:

Wishing you a holiday that is merry & bright…filled with old traditions and new!
Happy Holidays and Cheers to 2011!

12 Days of Decor & Traditions: Day 11

Christmas Eve dinner is a tradition in my family.  Typically we will get a little dressed up and sit down to a nice dinner.  It is a small moment in the Christmas craziness to take a breath and enjoy each others company.  The food is usually Italian, the lighting is candlelight and the china, my great grandmothers that I inherited.  I set the table a day early to give you a sneak peak at what it will look like tomorrow night.

The Details:
As I mentioned on Day 7, my brothers beloved log will become the centerpiece.  This year I added some low arrangements of red roses as well as votive candles and small silver and matte silver ornaments.  My napkin rings are small grapevine wreaths that I painted metallic champagne to match the wreath from Day 10.

I am looking forward to this time of celebrating with my family.  Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?  I would love to hear about them!

One final post tomorrow!  A hint…it is a Christmas morning tradition!
