Aubergine & Metallics: Our Pure Imagination Design

At the end of October we participated in a Luxury Wedding & Event Decor Preview at the Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma.  I was so excited to create a design for this event.

The Concept:
Local designers were given a space to design and assigned a unique theme to serve as inspiration.

The Location:
Foss Waterway Seaport
Tacoma, WA

The Themes:
Each theme was essentially two words that perhaps would not normally be paired together or even go together.  There were designs that represented: Cultural Suburbia, Vegas Country Club, Winter Desert, Vintage City, Seaside Forest, Hollywood Gardens, New York Picnic and Shipyard Meadows.

My Theme, My Design:
Our theme was “Shipyard Meadows”.  Yes, shipyard: industrial, cold and gray meets meadow: green grass, rolling hills and fields of flowers.  Our set-up was not like the other designs.  My design was a ceremony set-up located outside on the esplanade where a ceremony would typically take place.  Yes, outside in October in the wonderful Pacific Northwest.  The other designs were set-up inside the building.

Here are the photos Wallflower Photography took of our space.

Mercury glass lanterns wrapped with gold wire hung from the tree we created (above left).  Our guest book was a tree drawn by a local artist (above right).  We are working with this artist to create custom guest books for our clients.  For more information please email us jen@jensblossoms.com

Down the aisle (above) was a custom painted aisle runner and groupings of black rock, large river rock, moss, orange lilies, gold mercury glass lanterns, cylinders of grass and copper wrapped cylinders topped with white hydrangea.  We tied silver chivari chairs with aubergine satin chair ties.

A view of the tent with the chandelier we created (left).  The altar (right) had wrought iron columns with curly willow and ruscus that created an arch.  We tucked a moss planter of grasses and lilies into the corner.

A special thank you to AA Party Rentals for supplying us with the clear tent, wrought iron columns, table and chivari chairs and to Trendy Event Rentals for supplying the  aubergine satin linens and silver draping.

Roche Harbor Wedding: Adventures with Isabella Part 5

Wow…what a weekend! The ingredients for a great trip (even a working trip) were all there: gorgeous location to work at, perfect weather, beautiful flowers and wonderful company. When Isabella invited me to join her to do this wedding in Roche Harbor I was thrilled. It seems like forever ago when we first chatted about the trip and now it is over. Isabella flew home this afternoon while I unpacked and prepped for the week. But let’s pick up where we left off last night…we were waiting to break down our items from the event.

Clearing our items out went pretty quickly. We decided to pack up the car for the trip home last night as our morning departure time changed and we were now leaving earlier (thank you fabulous Roche Harbor Resort staff for the advise). We made it to the ferry in plenty of time this morning and waited with the other cars in the fog.

We were so happy to make it to the Tides Tavern in Gig Harbor for lunch on the deck before Isabella had to catch her flight. Sally, Isabella’s mom was with us (thank you for driving Sally) and my parents met us there. It was the perfect close to our adventure.

Looking back over the past few days I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to learn a few new tricks, hang out with my dear friend and help create a stunning event.

To the Newlyweds, many happy wishes for the future. It was a pleasure to get to know you and your families this weekend and a joy to share in part of your wedding celebration.

Roche Harbor Wedding: Adventures with Isabella Part 4

Well, we did it! Our day started bright and early with our first trip to the venue for set up. Sally continued to make trips while Isabella and I set to work completing the personal flowers; bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, ring bearer pillows and flower girl baskets. A few photos of the bouquets, the groomsmen boutonnieres and the ring bearer pillows.

Once the personal flowers were completed we all headed to the venue to finish set-up. I love how our hydrangea tree turned out. We wired water tubed hydrangea to the branches of the tree that served as a backdrop for the ceremony. We also created a scrolled design with rose petals down the aisle.

20110904-092329.jpg

For the cocktail hour space we tucked hydrangea around the base of two potted olive trees, had arrangements of hydrangea in mason jars for the cocktail tables and added large hand-tied bouquets to the stairs leading up to the reception site.

At the reception site the sweetheart table was draped with a garland of greens and hydrangea while the guest tables had centerpieces consisting of one large center arrangement and three smaller arrangements.

20110904-092923.jpg

Once our set-up job was completed we were able to sneak a peak at the starting of the ceremony before heading back to our “studio” to unload and clean up. On our way to dinner we ran into the happy couple taking photos…so beautiful! The bride had her mothers wedding gown altered for the occasion.

We had a wonderful dinner on the deck of Madrona Bar & Grill and will head back to the reception site to grab a few things a bit later tonight.

We have had an incredible time in Roche Harbor. Tomorrow I will share a few final thoughts about the weekend!

Roche Harbor Wedding: Adventures with Isabella Part 3

Our day began with a quick trip over to Friday Harbor to pick up Isabella’s mom, Sally. Sally came across with a second round of supplies (the ones we didn’t need immediately and honestly couldn’t fit into the car). After a couple quick errands, we love the Ace Hardware in Friday Harbor, it was back to work. Sally went to work prepping the buffet arrangement containers while Isabella worked on this amazing piece for the stone wall in the reception site.

20110903-092709.jpg

Today we completed buffet arrangements, staircase bouquets, the stone wall piece and a few other things including water tubing a massive amount of blue hydrangea that we will use to decorate the ceremony site. The buckets of hydrangea are staged on the deck.

20110903-093153.jpg

The two flower girls will get these cute baskets with blue ribbon handles.

20110903-093253.jpg

We took a late afternoon/early evening break and headed to the harbor for dinner and a little relaxation. Well, once we escaped the swarm of bees it was relaxing! But, that’s a story for another time.

A little clean up and reviewing of the schedule for the big day tomorrow and it’s time to call it a night!

Roche Harbor Wedding: Adventures with Isabella Part 2

Yesterday when I signed off Isabella and I were waiting in line for the ferry to Friday Harbor. On our ride over to the island we saw a magnificent sunset while we planned the unpacking process. As seen in yesterday’s post, our car was packed full.

20110902-100038.jpg

When we arrived at our destination we immediately began unpacking and processing the flowers. Yes, it was now close to 11:00 PM. We processed bunches of hydrangea, dahlias, roses, sweet peas, tuberose, lily of the valley, garden roses and phalaenopsis orchids. Here is a pic of Isabella unpacking one of two orchid boxes.

20110902-100657.jpg

This morning we set to work getting the centerpieces done. The main component of the centerpieces are birch bark covered containers filled with hydrangea, dahlias, roses, tuberose and phalaenopsis orchids. This arrangement will be surrounded by three smaller vases wrapped with moss and filled with hydrangea and either roses, dahlias or sweet peas. Here is the start of the centerpieces.

20110902-101214.jpg

The centerpieces are mostly complete and stored on a protected deck outside. We will add the phalaenopsis orchids to finish them off before the wedding on Sunday. Here is today’s finished work!

20110902-101513.jpg

The bride and her parents invited us to the welcome party this evening. They hired a dock to tie up in the harbor and had a sunset party. A very cool thing about Roche Harbor: at sunset a canon is fired followed by the lowering of the flag and then the boats in the harbor all sound their horns. A perfect end to the day!

More to come tomorrow!

Roche Harbor Wedding: Adventures with Isabella Part 1

I am so thrilled to be working with my friend Isabella to create the florals for a wedding this weekend up in Roche Harbor. Isabella’s company, Florabella, is based in San Francisco and she flew into Washington today to begin this event. The wedding is for the daughter of Isabella’s floral supplier. I thought it would be fun to blog this weekend as we are creating for this “sure to be stunning” event. There have already been adventures, laughs and photos so here we go!

The flowers were delivered, from San Francisco, to my studio this morning…12 big boxes!

Once Isabella arrived we headed to grab lunch and then proceeded to load the car!

We are now in line for the ferry across to Friday Harbor. More to come…
